Jerusalem Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary
According to tradition, the Jerusalem icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary was painted by the holy evangelist Luke in the 15th year after the Ascension of the Lord, in Gethsemane, in 48 AD. It became the first of the seventy lifetime images of the Mother of God created by the Apostle Luke.
Since the time of its creation, it was intended to protect the Christian community of Jerusalem.
Prayers before the "Jerusalem" icon of the Mother of God are offered in various situations:
🔸 The Virgin helps when praying for deliverance from heavy sorrow, despair, and grief. She alleviates suffering from the loss of a deceased loved one.
🔸 She aids in enduring physical afflictions and, upon fervent request, heals seriously ill people.
🔸 Collective prayers (united in agreement) protect the city from enemies.
🔸 One can pray before the icon before embarking on a long journey and take the image along for the trip—Mother of God will remove all difficulties from the path, especially for pilgrims.
🔸 Like many other images of the Mother of God, the "Jerusalem" icon helps with difficulties in family relationships, and for childless couples, after earnest prayers and righteous living, it grants the joy of having a child.
The icon is made on a plastic base, with a stand and a hole on the back for hanging it on the wall.
