Что такое Сорокоуст и зачем его заказывать в храме?

What is Sorokoust and why order it in the temple?

Sorokoust is a prayerful commemoration that is performed during 40 Divine Liturgies in a row.

At the proskomedia, a particle is removed from the prosphora with the name of the living or deceased, and at the end of the Liturgy with the prayer "Wash away, O Lord, the sins of those remembered here with Your precious blood, through the prayers of Your saints," the priest lowers this particle into the Chalice with the Blood of Christ. This happens forty times during the same number of Divine Liturgies.

Magpies can be “For health” or “For the repose of the soul.”

Magpie for Health

It is ordered not only to improve the physical condition of relatives and friends. The concept of "health" includes spiritual well-being, peace of mind and even material well-being. Such a prayer can also be a request to God to soften the heart of an ill-wisher, to return love and harmony to it.

Magpie about the Repose

The Holy Scripture says that after death, the soul of a person appears before the Lord and undergoes many trials. The living can help the deceased on this path with their prayers. One of the most effective commemorations is considered to be the Sorokoust for the repose of the soul, which helps the newly departed to receive a merciful verdict at God's court.
