Oil of Oil and Miro - what is the difference?

Often, when purchasing Holy Oil from Jerusalem, many do not understand the difference between Myrrh and Oil.

So what's the difference?

OIL is often mentioned in the Bible and is used regularly in temples today. Even in ancient times it was used as a medicine. For example, the book of Leviticus describes a story where lepers were healed after oil was applied to them.

In eastern countries, when a monarch was crowned, a whole cup of oil was poured on his head. This served as a symbol of the fact that this person was chosen by God and had a special purpose.

The Old Testament says that if the Lord punished the people, he would always deprive them of oil. After all, the pouring out of oil has always been a symbol of well-being for the people.

Today, oil is used in churches during various church rituals, such as anointing, unction, in lamps, and also in various church sacraments.

By its nature, fir oil is a regular oil. Mostly, pure linseed, sunflower or olive oil is used. In addition, it may contain essential oils without strong odors.

MYRO is a fragrant oil, which contains from 40 to 50 components, including fir. Incense is added to the oil, for example, myro may contain rose essential oil, incense, nutmeg oil, etc.

Myrrh is used during the ritual of illumination. This applies not only to church buildings, but also to the person himself during his initiation into Christianity.

The establishment of the Sacrament of Chrismation dates back to apostolic times. In the early Church, each newly baptized person received the blessing and gift of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands by an apostle or bishop. Subsequently, with the increase of Christians, due to the impossibility of a personal meeting between each newly baptized person and the bishop, ordination was replaced by Chrismation.
